For those of you who are Kodaly-trained, or have been through at least some training, you know how incredible Kodaly levels can be. There are so many benefits to getting your training, including:
- Learning TONS of new songs and games for your students!
- Learning a wide variety of strategies to best reach each student
- Improved musicianship
- Improving your lesson planning
- Learning how to write and implement long-range plans, such as song lists and year plans
- Meeting other music teachers from around the nation, and sometimes, around the world
- Learning how to research and analyze folk songs
- Learning about special topics, such as technology, student-centered learning, instruments in the Kodaly-inspired classroom, and more!
As I read over the list above, it still doesn't quite do the experience justice. For me, it was life-changing!
If you haven't yet received your Kodaly levels and are looking for a course in your area, a good place to research is on the OAKE website's list of endorsed programs. Some of us who are collaborators on this blog are teachers in courses across the nation. Here is a list, along with links to each respective program:
- I teach Level I for DePaul University's Kodaly Program, in Chicago
- Colorado State University's Kodaly Program is well represented on this blog!
- Tanya LeJeune teaches Level I
- Amy Abbott teaches Level II
- Karla Cherwinski teaches Level III
- Christopher Roberts teaches parts of Level I, II, AND III for the Kodaly levels program of Seattle
Have any questions about any of these programs? Feel free to contact any of us, or leave a comment below. Have a great weekend!
